Logie Quarry, Kildary, Ross-shire for Small Blue Butterflies and day-flying moths, 10 June 2012

Eight people braved the very cold weather on 10th June to look for Small Blue Butterflies. The food plant, kidney vetch, looked fantastic and now covers a very extensive area, but we had to look very hard to find the butterflies. Eventually one was netted, and having searched the vegetation under which they were sheltering we saw a total of six! We resorted to a walk round Kildary Loch in the afternoon, at least there was some birdlife!
