Glen Orrin Scrub Clearance Work Party - April 2nd 2017

The day turned out as forecast, dry with some sunshine, just perfect for the ten people arriving in Glen Orrin for the annual scrub clearing event. We piled into four cars for the short journey to the base of the hill, where all the equipment needed, plus extras such as the large flasks of tea and cake, were shared to be carried.

The track where most of the Pearl-bordered Fritillaries are seen is now, after several years of work, quite clear of gorse and broom bushes. This has enabled the dog violets to flourish, some just starting to grow and a few with flowers.

The aim on this occasion was to clear some of the larger bushes on the lower side of the track thereby increasing the available habitat. A very sizable area was completed by the end of the day after much hard work on quite a steep slope.

All that’s left to say is a huge thank you to the volunteers who worked so hard – and the cake was much appreciated of course.

Cake cutting

I don't think that tool was designed for cutting cake!

Hard at work.
