Boat of Garten Speyside Way Work Party - Saturday 1st December 2018

By Pete Moore

Back in September we had a work party clearing scrub along a stretch of the Speyside Way near Boat of Garten to improve the habitat for Small Blue butterfly which had been recorded here earlier in the year. In spite of a good turn-out of 18 volunteers, we didn’t quite finish the job.

There wasn’t enough work remaining to warrant a full-blown, advertised work party, so at short notice a group of local volunteers, plus one BC staff (Tom of course), decided to go and finish the job. Twelve of us met at 10am and we uprooted pines, broom, birch and heather to open up the ground and encourage the spread of kidney vetch. By lunchtime we were done - good team-work!

Thanks to all who attended. The short notice meant that Tom didn’t have time to bake a cake but we enjoyed Hilary’s chocolate crunchies and Fiona’s carrot cake!
